The Butt 2017
540 x 470 x 250mm (l,w,h)
Blood Wood Tree, Northern Territory
This amazing burl was found in the far reaches of the Northern Territory on a dying blood wood tree.
Named ‘THE BUTT’ due to its characteristics and seat like shape. As the burl was carved two holes were exposed, these were made into a feature.
Burls are normally formed by a virus fasciation, which causes radical cell distortion and the crazy grain. However the blood wood burl is actually an enlarged knot.
THE BUTT is a one of kind sculpture, which was hand carved to accentuate its natural shape. It is finished with a clear oil to bring out its natural colour.
The tree will live forever in this stand-alone piece. Please respect, love and enjoy its beauty!
