The Brain 2017
700 x 330 x 260mm (l,w,h)
Blood Wood Tree, Northern Territory
This amazing burl was discovered in the far reaches of the Northern Territory, half way along a fallen blood wood tree.
This sculpture is named ‘THE BRAIN’ due to the many hours of thoughts creating it, also to its brain like appearance.
As the burl was carved, a few holes were exposed. Copper enriched mineral stones were placed inside.
Malachite is said to be a protection stone, to protect children, to protect against accidents. It is said to aid in the success of businesses and to protect against undesirable business transactions. It also has healing properties and can rid nightmares.
Burls are normally formed by a virus fasciation, which causes radical cell distortion and the crazy grain. However the blood wood burl is actually an enlarged knot.
