Wooly Butt Gum Tree, Northern Territory
This amazing burl was discovered in the far reaches of the Northern Territory, on a wooly butt gum tree.
Named butterfly because of the Butterfly shape in the burl shown in the different colouration in the heart & the sapwood.
Burls are normally formed by a virus fasciation, which causes radical cell distortion and the crazy grain. However the blood wood burl is actually an enlarged knot.
BUTTERFLY is A one of a kind sculpture, which has been hand carved to accentuate its natural shape and finished with a clear oil to bring out its natural colour.
The tree will live forever in this stand-alone piece. Please respect, love and enjoy its beauty.
